This will be our last project of the semester. For seniors, any work that you want to be factored into your grade needs to be turned in to me by Tuesday May 11th-tomorrow! For everyone else, you have until Friday to complete this and any other work you want credit for. Since this is our last project, we will be focused on what your art can do to spread happiness. Throughout the semester we have learned basic skills and to wrap up the class I thought it would be fun to use those skills to make art and bring art to others. We will be working this week on mail art. Mail art is a movement that started in the 1950's and continues currently. Artists will create either pieces that can be mailed or create art on envelopes to be sent-sometimes to people they know and sometimes to museums, strangers, exhibitions, open artists calls and other artists interested in an exchange. I am going to post a couple of articles and videos below if you are interested in learning more about the process and how you could participate in mail art exhibitions and exchanges around the world. For our project your job is to create a small piece of art-your choice of subject, medium and size (although it has to fit inside of an envelope). You will place it inside of an envelope and you must also decorate your envelope (also your choice of medium and subject matter). Send me a picture of both your artwork and your finished envelope. Then your final job is to mail it out. In this time of quarantine, someone you know will be thrilled to receive your creation in the mail. Things to consider: Your viewer (who are you designing this for?) Color choice (what mood are you setting?) Subject (what do you want your artwork to convey?) Space (what parts of the envelope will be included, how will you use the area?) Check out the envelope examples below along with the history of mail art. I can't wait to see what you create and I can't wait for your recipient to receive a bit of art joy in the mail! click on this link to learn more: https://stamps.org/news/c/collecting-insights/cat/stamp-art/post/what-is-mail-art-2020 More info and ideas here:

"May the 4th be with you" I am not a huge Star Wars fan but I live with several so I know May 4th in Star Wars land is a fun day to watch all of the movies and do whatever else Star Wars Fans do:-) We are having Star Wars themed snacks at my house today. I thought it would be fun to get some Art History covered and have some Star Wars fun. Our project this week is to study a group of Star Wars themed art parodies. Your job is to find the real masterpiece the parody is based on. For each piece, tell me the Title, artist and three facts about the artist. If you are wondering how you will figure out what the parodies are based upon, make some observations about the work. Is it a portrait? Landscape? How would you describe it using elements and principles of art? When you have developed a good description based on the visual evidence you have do a google search with your description. If you have described it well it will not be difficult to locate. Email me your list by Friday. We have one more project after this. Remember that if you have any zeros in Synergy, work on completing that first. That will bring your grade up more than anything else!
